International Security for Ports and Shipments - ISPS

Introduction

Participants will be required to pass a practical assessment of skills, and a written or verbal examination of theory. The course is designed around the IMO Model course and is accredited with the New Zealand Maritime Safety Authority. 

The interactive five-day program, designed for anybody with a legitimate interest or role in port security, introduces participants to the main requirements of the Code and, through case studies, lectures and syndicated exercises, sets out the steps that have to be taken in order for compliance. This course is based on the Port Facility Security Officer’s Course but aimed at an international audience.

Objectives

    To provide the Company Security Officer, Ship Security Officer (CSO/SSO), and Port Facility Security Officer (PFSO) with instruction and proficiency in compliance with the ISPS Code.

Training Methodology

This is an interactive course. There will be open question and answer sessions, regular group exercises and activities, videos, case studies, and presentations on best practice. Participants will have the opportunity to share with the facilitator and other participants on what works well and not so well for them, as well as work on issues from their own organizations. The online course is conducted online using MS-Teams/ClickMeeting.

This specialized interrogation training workshop is designed for law enforcement and government investigators, corporate security and loss prevention professionals as well as Human Resources personnel.

Course Outline

At the end of the course, all participants will be able to demonstrate knowledge and competency in all the areas listed:

CSO / SSO

  • A candidate successfully completing the Company and Ship Security Officer programmer will be able to
  • Describe recommended practices and procedures listed in international regulations and policies regarding ship security
  • Develop a threat assessment and risk analysis based on available intelligence
  • Information
  • Identify characteristics and behavior patterns of persons who may be likely to commit unlawful acts
  • Recognize and detect weapons, dangerous substances, and devices
  • Identify common crowd behaviors’
  • Develop and implement a ship security plan
  • Demonstrate the elements of a security assessment and propose modifications to an existing plan.
  • PASO
  • A candidate successfully completing the Port Facility Security Officer program will be able to:
  • Manage the conduct of a Port Facility Security Assessment
  • Develop a Port Facility Security plan from the assessment and submit it for approval by the appropriate Authority
  • Supervise the implementation of a Port Facility Security Plan
  • Maintain the Port Facility Security Plan
  • Assess security risks, threats, and vulnerability
  • Undertake periodic inspections of the port facility to ensure security measures are implemented and maintained in accordance with the Port Facility Security Plan
  • Ensure that all security equipment and systems of the port facility, are properly
  • Operated, tested and calibrated
  • Encourage security awareness and vigilance
  • Liaise with Ship Security Officers regarding security issues
  • Ensuring that security-related personnel receives adequate training.
