Electrical Power System Medium and High Voltage Switch Gear

Introduction

Medium and high voltage electrical power switchgears are critical and important components of an electrical installation. The salient equipment are the power transformer, the circuit breaker and the gas insulated switchgear. Currently these switchgears are migrating to eco efficient characteristics incorporating eco-friendly substances like fluids and gases. With regards to the reduction of global warming potential, new green gases are developed to replace the sulfur hexafluoride gas used in circuit breakers. In the gas insulated substations eco-friendly designs are now available incorporating digital components. Maintenance of the medium and high voltage switchgears have progressed significantly with the emergence of new testing and diagnostics instruments. Remote monitoring has become a norm for high voltage transformers and circuit breakers. The operations of these switchgears have to be a more reliable and secured parameters, by incorporating digital technologies, artificial intelligence and internet of things. This training course will emphasis on operations, characteristics and maintenance of eco efficient of gas insulated switchgears, transformers and circuit breakers.

Objectives

By the end of this Energy Training Centre training course, participants will learn to:

    • Recognize the types and characteristics of medium and high voltage switchgears
    • Explore the merits of eco efficient and eco-friendly switchgears
    • Understand the merits of ester based oils for transformers
    • Appreciate the use of green gases for gas insulated substations and circuit breakers
    • Achievement of well-maintained and safe switchgears for operations

Training Methodology

This course will ensure that participants will receive a thorough training on the subjects covered by the outline with the instructor utilizing a variety of proven adult learning teaching and facilitation techniques. Each participant will receive a copy of the comprehensive course material. The presenter will outline and discuss the topics using computer displays, videos and power point presentation.
