Clean Energy Opportunities & Risk Analysis

Introduction

This Clean Energy Opportunities and Risk Analysis training course combines a group of interdisciplinary aspects responsible for the success or failure of clean energy projects. The acquisition of this multidimensional knowledge is important for understanding the global clean energy market, investment, and future trends. Proper understanding of renewable energy projects' technical, economic, financial, and environmental aspects leads to successful implementation and bankability. This interdisciplinary training course gives an overview of clean energy technologies, resource assessment projects, and management processes. Technical, economic, policy, legislation, investment, feasibility, investment, and market environment aspects are discussed and demonstrated for successful, bankable, and competitive clean energy projects. Different risks encountered in the financing, construction, commissioning, operation, maintenance, and decommissioning are also addressed. The impacts of these risks on project implementation and success are discussed with an overview of the qualitative and quantitative risk analysis/assessment methodology. Such assessment is important in the first stages of project feasibility and appraisal. The delivery of both technical and managerial aspects of clean energy facilitates market penetration. The project development process is important for enhancing the system efficiency, output yield and financial returns. Modelling and simulation tools make it easy to analyse the different project alternatives and choose the optimum technology for a specific location.

Objectives

By the end of this training course, the participants will be able to:

    • Acquire an overview on the different clean energy technologies and their competitiveness
    • Familiarise with global trends in renewable energy investments, implementation, and energy transition
    • Understand the different policies and incentive schemes for the promotion of Renewable Energy technologies
    • Be acquainted with project development and management processes
    • Acquire awareness of technical, economic, policy, legislation, feasibility, investment, risk, and market environment aspects of renewable energy projects
    • Acquire the knowledge needed to plan and manage renewable energy projects during design, contracting, construction, commissioning, operation and maintenance and decommissioning
    • Conduct life cycle assessment process for renewable energy projects and assess their bankability
    • Acquire the skill of modelling and simulation for successful, bankable clean energy projects

Training Methodology

The delegates on this training course will be utilising a variety of proven teaching techniques. Each section shall begin with an introduction, followed by a presentation of the key technical concepts. It will include PowerPoint presentations, videos, illustrations, real case studies, and hands-on exercises. Finally, at the end of each section, a group discussion (Q&A) shall be held.
